I came across the below quote a couple of weeks ago when Jay-Z made headlines again, but this time it was for him launching Roc Nation Sports. I absolutely love Jay’s business acumen and how he has no problem diversifying his brand. This man has created so much just from simply being a recording artist. When he saw that there wasn’t an opportunity, he created his own.
“I was forced to be an artist and a CEO from the beginning, so I was forced to be like a businessman because when I was trying to get a record deal, it was so hard to get a record deal on my own that it was either give up or create my own company.” – Jay-Z
What I’ve found in my years of being an intrapreneur is that opportunity may never knock for you. One should never wait around for opportunity to knock. If you do, you may miss your chance. Every successful business owner created their own opportunity. They took control of their destiny, their life, and their income. They didn’t wait around for a raise, or for someone to invest in their talent. Instead, they invested in themselves by creating their opportunity.
This is why I have a strong love for entrepreneurs and startups. Their drive, perseverance, and determination to succeed is remarkable. They’re never complacent, nor are they lazy. They believe in working hard towards achieving their goals and there is absolutely nothing that anyone can do about it.
Are you someone that created your own opportunity as oppose to waiting for someone to hand it to you? Please share below. My readers and I would love to read about it.
